TISD Taxes

Tidehaven ISD TAXES

This year’s tax rate is unchanged and remains $1.005

Great News – The Board of Trustees of Tidehaven Independent School District took a strong, bold stand to protect the tax payers and community members of Tidehaven.

The Texas Legislature underfunded schools this year by cutting $4 billion dollars from public education.

Tax rate for 2010-2011 = $1.005

Tax rate for 2011-2012 = $1.005

Early reports indicated that Tidehaven ISD would lose $757,000.00 in funding. Later reports indicated that Tidehaven ISD could lose close to $795,000.00. Austin is still trying to iron out the details but Tidehaven ISD will lose between $750,000 - $795,000 this year in state funding.

Good News! With the recent decisions and positive leadership of the school board, the district was able to adopt a budget that absorbed all of the cuts from the Texas Legislature and “still” protected all of our children and programs.

That is strong, positive leadership from our Trustees!

In order to reach that goal, strong steps had to be taken.

For example:

1) Employees were not given a pay raise this year. Teachers were given the required step-raise on the state mandated pay scale but the district was forced to lower the “local stipend” to offset the cuts.

Isn’t it amazing how Austin mandates pay raises by law but then cuts the state budget to the schools?

The school board refused to conduct a RIF (Reduction In Force) to meet the cuts from the state.

2) Principals and directors were asked to cut their department budgets by 20% across the board.

3) The district budget was reviewed, line by line, to see where we could make cuts while trying to minimize the impact on the students.

Every single school board trustee serves to “help the kids” and they deeply care about our students and staff.

Our trustees volunteer their time and effort to serve the students and community.

Please tell our trustees how much you appreciate their service and give them a “pat on the back”.
