VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) is a program that encourages parents and various groups and organizations in the community to become involved in the process of public education.  The focus of the VIPS program is to support and enrich the learning experiences of our students which will result in increased student achievement.

VIPS volunteers perform many useful tasks, all with the ultimate goal of benefiting our students.  These duties vary from teacher to teacher and school to school, but are all important to student success.
These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Tutoring children who have special needs in a particular area such as math, reading, spelling, English, social studies, etc.
  • Reading to students or listening to them read
  • Assisting with other academic activities as determined by the teacher

A good school volunteer is available anywhere from 30 minutes, one day a week to 8 hours a day!  A good volunteer is dependable and committed; has a professional attitude and interest in education; and understands the importance of confidentially.   A good volunteer is enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of our children.
