| The Tidehaven Independent School District recently renamed Tiger
Stadium in honor of one of our community's long time residents and TISD employees, Mr.
Delvin L. Taska. The Board of Trustees, the TISD administration, and many Tidehaven
fans honored Mr. Delvin L. Taska on August 29, 2003, by renaming our football stadium in
honor of him. Mr. Taska is a long-time administrator, former student and supporter of the
Tidehaven Independent School District.
On hand for the presentation were Mr. Jack Conner and Mr. Don
Landry from Prosperity Bank, donor of the new Delvin L. Taska Tiger Stadium scoreboard.
Before the stadium was officially renamed Delvin L. Taska Tiger
Stadium, the following history was shared with the fans about our honoree:
Mr. Taska spent most of his youth in this community and graduated
from Blessing High School in 1944. He then went and courageously served our country during
WWII. Mr. Taska graduated from Southwest Texas State in 1949 and taught and coached one
year in Crescent ISD (now a part of the El Campo ISD). In 1950, Mr. Taska returned to
Tidehaven ISD as the high school principal/biology teacher/ coach/bus driver. After
several years as the high school principal, he became superintendent in 1973 and served as
superintendent for 13 years before retiring in 1986. As you can tell, Mr. Taska has been a
part of this community and school district for well over 70 years. Mr. Taska continues to
be a strong supporter of Tidehaven academics and athletics. If the stadium or gym lights
are on somewhere within the school district, you will probably find Mr. Taska in
attendance. THANKS Mr. Taska for your many years of dedicated service to the Tidehaven
school district and community.
