Markham Elementary second graders enjoyed a very educational trip to the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge in Brazoria, Texas. The Rangers explained to students how they help protect our natural resources, put out forest fires, and even let the students practice putting out fires. Students enjoyed using microscopes to view specimens from the lake. They also learned about the wildlife in the refuge and were able to touch animal furs. There favorite experience was learning about the snakes and alligators and getting to touch them!! Students enjoyed lunch followed by a bus ride through the Refuge to see all the birds and alligators. They all had a wonderful time.
First graders in Ms. Aguilera's and Ms. Zapalac's classes had a great time at the Palacios Marine Center. They enjoyed searching the salt marsh for fiddler crabs. They were able to see them up close and can now differntiate between male and female. They also engaged in fish painting and went for a walk on the nature trail. Students really enjoyed the "Octopus Bubble", pictured above, where they learned all about octopuses.
Ms. Shelley Bock's fourth graders constructed their own globe using a blue balloon for the oceans and green construction paper for the land. Once students created their globe, they had to label each continent and ocean.
Mrs. Claxton's kindergarten class got to eat the fruits of their labor! After their lesson on apples, students actually made an apple pie. They had a blast making it and eating it, too. Thank you to the cafeteria ladies for baking it for them.
Everyone enjoyed Luau Family Night hosted by the Markham PTO on October 24.
Mrs. Harvey's third grade students are showing what they brought for their "Sharing Memories" activitiy that coordinated with their reading story for the week, Grandfather's Journey.
Mrs. Bock's fourth and fifth grade science classes conducted an experiment about the reaction between baking soda and vinegar, while practicing the steps of the scientific method.

Kindergarten students made Statue of Liberty crowns and torches during freedom week. They learned that The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of Freedom in our country.
Kindergarten students are enjoying listening to the story Green Eggs and Ham. After they heard the story, they made green eggs and ham, as they also learned about secondary colors.
