Tidehaven ISD Summary of Meeting The open forum began at 6:45 p.m. with Mr. Jones welcoming all members and visitors. There were 24 members and 8 visitors. After a brief review of the past eight meetings, Mr. Jones introduced Cameron Hollomon and David Simmons, from the Region 4 ESC Facility Service Team. Mr. Hollomon presented more information concerning the condition of facilities in our district, concentrating on HVAC systems, site issues, foundation issues and roofing issues. In his discussion and presentation of pictures, Mr. Hollomon showed how several of the air condition units at the high school have received significant hail damage, one of the units in the main gym is not functioning and the unit in the Distance Learning Lab is not adequate for the heat load produced in this area. The service team presented replacement cost sheets for all the units in the district. Among the site issues Mr. Hollomon discussed were the drainage issues for parking lots and the need to clear culverts of debris. The current parking lots do not meet requirements for striping or signage. The team’s report stressed the need for scheduled, routine maintenance on parking areas and presented an estimated replacement costs for the current asphalt parking locations in the district. Foundation issues were next on the report. The gym floor at the Blessing Elementary is beginning to fail; it appears to be sinking. The team feels there are some areas that should be covered and secured. The gym floor at the Intermediate is cracked, with the northwest corner of the foundation having dropped, causing the west wall to separate. The Intermediate office building appears to be un-level and there is a crack that runs along the hallway floor. Along with these issues, Mr. Hollomon reminded the committee that there are several areas in our district that still have asbestos flooring and the district should plan for its removal. David Simmons discussed roofing issues with the committee. The Region IV team examined the interior and exterior of all roof related sheet metal, parapets, copings, flashings, roof mat, deck system and all penetrations and/or projections through the roof systems. It was found that the foam roofing system used on several of the buildings has blistered and cracked, allowing water to penetrate the structures. Some of the metal roofing is also allowing water to penetrate the structures. Mr. Simmons stressed that all this penetration could cause issues, including mold. Mr. Simmons also discussed the fact that the current HVAC systems are not allowing fresh air return into the buildings. After a short recess, Mr. Jones introduced Mr. Dale Rabe and Brandon Rabe. They presented architectural information to the committee. Their presentation included examples, in a PowerPoint format, of repairs, remodeling and complete construction of school facilities they have or are currently working on. Mr. Rabe stressed the importance of getting correct, accurate information out to the public when discussing possible renovations or construction. Included in his discussion were concept drawings/slides from Matagorda ISD, Columbus ISD, and East Chambers ISD. Mr. Rabe discussed with the committee the services his firm can provide should the committee decide to pursue construction and/or renovation of its facilities, including assessment of facilities, planning, and providing information to use when presenting choices to the public. Mr. Jones asked the committee members to think about three possible suggestions and to bring these to the next committee meeting. The committee decided to meet again on March 18, 2008 in the High School LRC at 6:45 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
